Marilyn Minter
Fingered and Fun House Mirror Series II, 1992

Fingered and Fun House Mirror are two series of unique screenprints on aluminum supports with Mylar overlays. Fingered is an edition of 9 unique states, Fun House Mirror is an edition of 5 unique states.

Fingered, and Fun House Mirror Series II were produced in 1992 as an experiment in different materials, enabling Minter to explore screen printing and painting as opposed to blue print, a prior technique employed by the artist. The project resulted in a series of unique multiples, each created in variant states of screen print color, enamel color and the addition of mylar overlays, on aluminum supports.

The imagery in these two series speaks to conceptions of women, how they are viewed, and how they view themselves. Fun House Mirror Series II uses the idea of the false reflection and distortion of a carnival mirror to comment on warped perspectives about women and from women about themselves. Fingered focuses on nail polish—something which is associated with societal ideals of femininity but here looks grotesque, possibly violent.
