I AM LIVING IN THE WORLD, 2010
Dorfman+ invited Graham Gillmore to collaborate with master screenprinter Donald Sheridan to create two series of text-based works on paper.
This project combines Sheridan’s printmaking and color savvy with Gillmore’s poignant texts and compositional sense. Working together in Sheridan’s Jersey City studio, Gillmore guided the text placement while Sheridan, with his extensive knowledge of Warhol trial-proofs, pushed the limits of color.
I AM LIVING IN THE WORLD and FREE are both screenprints with hand painting and/or collage on Stonehenge paper, measuring 50 x 38 and 38 x 50 inches respectively. The former consists of 20 unique states and the latter consists of 18 unique states, signed and dated on front, numbered on verso.
Both series contain blocks of screenprinted text laid on hand-painted and/or collaged grounds. Most examples include additional unique overpainting and/or collage, added by Gillmore after the printmaking process and some have two layers of screenprinting.
